Hi-

Just thinking about how I am going to wire up the panel.

It would be nice to have the EMS BU up and running prior to engine start. Is it designed with this in mind? Are there any special considerations for electrical spikes as the engine starts up?

What about switching of the EMS. I ***ume it should be separated from the Avionics master to allow for start up prior to engine start?

Peter,

You can certainly have the EMS powered up during engine start, in fact you should! Voltage spikes will not hurt the EMS as it's designed for that purpose.

It would be wise to give it a separate circuit to allow you to keep your other avionics powered down during engine start. Thanks!

My last conversation with you, I was planning to install the EMS unit for engine monitoring. Now I plan to have two EFIS units installed. Can I have one or both of those booted up prior to engine start?

Hi Pete,

Sure can. The EFIS has the same internal protection, just give them time to fully boot before you start the engine, i.e. about 15 seconds.
